For the September issue #10 of Time Out Melbourne the main interview was with You Am I frontman Tim Rogers.
I’ve always had a love for live music photography, it’s pretty much how I started out and I’ve photographed You Am I a couple of times in the past but have never met Mr Rogers in person.
I wasn’t disappointed at all, he really was a lovely guy, totally attentive and great to work with. He even helped me pack up my gear at the end of the shoot!
We set-up the portrait session on location at legendary live music venue The Espy in St Kilda.
As is often the case with these type of shoots I had a short amount of time to figure out the best spot for a portrait or two. I had pre-planned by bringing a studio backdrop for more studio style portraiture and could suss out another spot for some different shots once I got to the location.
The Gershwin Room gave me plenty of room to set-up a seamless paper backdrop and my lights which you can see in a couple of the pics from the shoot. Once we’d captured those shots I moved my lights around and got Tim to relax on a chair, using the cavernous space for some different styled shots.
